A good nights sleep is something that many of us crave but can allude many of us. As we move towards the end of the year, many of us will be making a New Year resolution to sleep better. So, we thought it would be a good idea to give you our top tips for a good night sleep.
Colour scheme
Your bedroom should really be your restful sanctuary and colour can have a real impact, psychologically, on how we sleep. Neutral, pastel tones, if you want to go with a colour on your walls. Colour palettes like red and purple are considered to be the worst for firing our minds and the best is considered to be a tone that is moving towards white.
Freshen the air
Often our bedroom windows are kept closed. This can be for very sensible reasons around noise pollution and security but keeping our bedroom fresh should really make a difference to how we feel about our bedroom, and hopefully, may have an impact on how we sleep. You don’t just need to rely on opening windows either. Plants, especially ones like Mother’s Tounge, have proven effects on purifying the air. Of course plants also fundamentally, take carbon dioxide out of the air and replace it with oxygen — and more oxygen shouldn’t do us any harm.
Cut out the caffeine (and the alcohol!)
This may seem an obvious but many people enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the evening. Caffeine, of course, is a stimulant and it affects people in different ways and, especially if you don’t weigh much, it can remain in your system for many hours. Alcohol, though it can make you sleepy, is proven to disturb your sleep cycle, especially your deep sleep. Sleep practitioners recommend avoiding alcohol and caffeine before bedtime and you should consider switching to herbal teas like chamomile or peppermint.
Its all about the bed (and the mattress)
When it comes to a bed we would recommend a bigger bed is always better. Many people will be disturbed by the movements of a partner during the night.
